Andrew Marsh, or as he prefers to be called Marshy, was always fated to be a winemaker. He was born in 1970. From a very early age he and his two older brothers would help their father in the vineyard and winery, creating some of the Hunter Valley's most exclusive and sought after wines. Growing up in this environment created a deep desire for him to always follow his dream and to one day project himself from being the youngest of the Marsh clan doing the tougher jobs, to overseeing the operation as chief winemaker.

From the age of nine, Marshy attended The King's School in Sydney. He excelled in his scholastic commitments as well as his sporting endeavours of rugby, cricket, swimming and athletics.

After school Marshy spent two years in the wine retail market, with the encouragement of his parents, to gain a further understanding of the world of wine. He then enrolled at Charles Sturt University to study oenology (wine science). During his studies Marshy worked at a selection of big and small wineries during University holidays. Playing representative rugby union at this stage also "kept him out of the pub" as he so delicately puts it.

The next phase saw Marshy head home to Marsh Estate to work alongside his father Peter, for the 1994 vintage. Very quickly Peter realised that his youngest son had what it took to create the wines which Marsh Estate are so exclusively renowned for. In 1997, Peter took a step back from the winemaking duties leaving Marshy to use his knowledge and skills to fulfil his life long dream.
